Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ)
Most textile manufacturers, including Merit, have a minimum order quantity (MOQ). For baby pillows, it's typically 500–1,000 units per SKU.
Why does MOQ matter? Setup costs. Each production run requires loom setup time (3–5 days), thread color matching (1–2 days), test weave and approval (2–3 days), and tooling for embroidery or prints (1–2 days).
With 500 units, the setup cost spreads across more pieces, bringing your per-unit cost down. 100 pillows? Setup cost makes each one expensive. 2,000 pillows? Even cheaper per unit.
Flexibility note: If you have 300 units of Style A and 200 of Style B, that's still possible—just plan for slightly higher per-unit cost since you're running two separate setups.
Manufacturing Timeline: 30–45 Days
Expect this breakdown from order to shipment:
- Days 0–3: Design & Approval — Finalize fabric, color, pillow dimensions, and fill type. Manufacturer provides samples (if new design). You approve or iterate.
- Days 3–8: Purchasing & Setup — Sourcing raw materials (fabric, thread, filling, zippers). Loom setup and test weave.
- Days 8–28: Production — Weaving, cutting, filling, stitching. This is the main timeline. Merit runs 24/7 looms to keep turnaround fast. Daily QC checks at each loom.
- Days 28–35: Finishing & Packaging — Embroidery (if custom), final inspection (100% check), vacuum packing, and export preparation. Labels and tags are added here.
- Days 35–45: Shipping — Air freight (7–10 days, more expensive) or sea freight (21–28 days, cheaper). Customs clearance on arrival.
Bottom line: Plan for 30–45 days factory to your warehouse. Urgent orders can compress to 20–25 days, but cost 15–25% more.
